Tighee Review
RATING - ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ✨ 3.5/5*
Tighee Review Movie Talkies:
The cinema world in Maharashtra may not be aware of the name Jeejivisha Kale yet, but I can give it in writing that whoever watches Tighee will never forget her name. This is her debut film, and she has done better than many experienced filmmakers in Marathi cinema. Tighee comes across as a pleasant surprise for Marathi cinema, which hasn't been keeping up well with the flow of consistently good movies lately. January had Krantijyot, but that was largely boosted by Hemant Dhome’s nostalgic formula. Now in March, we have Tighee, which might end up being the best film of the year—or, in the worst case, one of the very best films of the year. And not to forget, it is coming from a debutant filmmaker. This is pure class, sheer skill, and a proper artistic feast for cinema lovers. Whenever I start thinking that Marathi cinema is slowly dying and is no longer showing much class, some brilliant storyteller suddenly appears out of nowhere to assure me that while there might be too much junk out there, real cinema and true filmmaking are still very much alive. Thank you, team Tighee, for reminding me of that very thought during what has felt like a massive dry phase.

Tighee Story:
Tighee is about Hemlata Rane (Bharti Achrekar), who is going to die soon because of cancer. Her elder daughter, Swati (Nehha Pendse), is married but is constantly fighting a financial battle while also dealing with sexual harassment from her boss. The younger one, Sarika (Sonalee Kulkarni), is taking care of their mother while trying to handle her own professional struggles. There is nothing more to the story on paper, but then again, there is everything within the small-small moments and scenes. How the two daughters and their mother grow closer and stronger in her final days is what the story primarily offers, but artistically, it carries much deeper emotional conflicts and layered human experiences.

Tighee may not have a particularly strong or eventful storyline, but the screenplay is simply outstanding. It becomes your responsibility as a viewer to watch every scene carefully and notice all those masterful little moments unfolding in between. The conversations, drama, and conflicts may not always feel unique or extraordinary, but the realism is incredibly engaging and powerful. There are so many things that you can instantly relate to, and the big reveal in the pre-climax portion works as a huge shocking element. It is emotionally staggering and personally mind-shattering. This is what true feminist movie actually looks like. I genuinely hope some of those careless Bollywood filmmakers hear that and take a few lessons from it.

Tighee Cast:
Tighee is led by three actresses, and arguably this is one of the rarest instances where all three leading performers have delivered career-best performances. Bharti Acharekar is absolutely top-notch. Her expressions alone speak volumes about the character’s emotional journey and also about her incredible understanding of acting. She doesn’t act; she simply makes you believe in her character and every word she speaks—almost as if these moments were unfolding inside your own home. Nehha Pendse has, without a doubt, delivered the best performance of her career. Over the years she has carried a glamorous image, and many people follow her on Instagram mainly for her glamorous and bold pictures. But this film is going to change that perception. She proves what a superb performer she truly is, and every single emotional scene loudly showcases her talent and sincerity. Sonalee Kulkarni has done a few intense roles earlier, but the accuracy, emotional depth, and realism of this performance stand on a completely higher level. Nipun Dharmadhikari, Pushkaraj Chirputkar, and Gemini Pathak perform well too, making the entire acting ensemble feel impeccable and perfectly balanced.

Tighee Movie Review:
On the technical front, Tighee is undoubtedly one of the best films in recent Marathi cinema. It boasts terrific cinematography, an outstanding background score, and superb editing, all coming together to create a top-class cinematic experience. Keep your eyes and ears open to truly witness the cinematic brilliance crafted by the team of Tighee. It’s not just a humble request from me—it’s almost a direct order. Without paying attention to these elements, you simply won’t be able to fully understand Tighee and its superior cinematic approach.

Coming to the captain of the ship, the master at work—Jeejivisha Kale—hands down! This woman clearly has cinema flowing in her blood. I don’t even need to see her blood reports to confirm that she is a “Cinema+ Positive” person. What an outstanding debut this is. You take a simple story and turn it into a must-watch film with what? No huge sets, no heavy melodrama, no chartbuster songs, and most importantly, no leading male hero. How????!!!! As a man, I may feel slightly hurt, but as a cinema lover, I bow down before Jeejivisha Kale. This is something I have been wanting to do for quite some time now, but I wasn’t getting the opportunity because of the low-standard filmmaking we have been witnessing lately. The wait is finally over, and it has absolutely been worth it. Tighee defines both classy cinema and feminist cinema at their very best within the Marathi industry. I didn’t have to cry like many other female audiences in the theatre; I simply had to connect with it, understand it, and feel it. And I DID.
