RATING - ⭐ ⭐ ✨ 2.5/5*

The Girlfriend Review Movie Talkies:

The Girlfriend presents Rashmika Mandanna in a dual shade — first as a sweet and charming college girl and later as a fierce, fearless woman who refuses to be defined by a man’s insecurities. The shocking transformation in the climax arrives after a series of exaggerated moments and heavily dramatized toxicity. Still, the film manages to make a one-time watch for young boys and girls who may relate to such relationships and hopefully learn something from them.

The Girlfriend

The Girlfriend Story:

Bhooma (Rashmika Mandanna) is shown as a caring, friendly college student. Vicky (Dheekshith Shetty) falls for her gentle nature and instantly assumes she is his girlfriend after a kiss — even though she does not reciprocate. She simply goes along with it. Not because she is naïve or voiceless, but because the writing forces her into the trope. Soon, male dominance begins to creep into their relationship and Bhooma’s freedom starts shrinking. When she finally breaks up with him, she faces humiliation and consequences that feel uncomfortably real for many.

The Girlfriend

The story makes limited sense from the beginning, but its college romance charm keeps the film cute and digestible initially. However, the final quarter becomes too loud, too dramatic, and even slightly unbelievable. Thankfully, the tension builds towards moments of absolute silence in the theatre — followed by applause — as feminism triumphs and the film concludes on a decent note.

The Girlfriend Cast:

Rashmika is confident, expressive, and holds the narrative strongly. Dheekshith Shetty delivers a convincing toxic boyfriend act. Anu Emmanuel looks gorgeous, but her character is poorly written. She wants a boy she knows is toxic, yet wants his girlfriend to leave him — entirely illogical and hypocritical.

The Girlfriend Movie Review:

The cinematography captures a lovely college vibe and the production design looks tidy. The pace is snappy, and the editing ensures the film never drags or feels dull. Rahul Ravindran deserves credit for choosing an important topic and keeping the audience engaged, though the script lacks depth and realism. College discipline, authorities, and even police involvement vanish despite seriously offensive situations — a major flaw in the storytelling.

The Girlfriend

Overall, The Girlfriend may feel forced and over-the-top at times, but its message is relevant. It is a decent film for general audiences, especially parents — and almost essential viewing for young girls learning to safeguard their personal boundaries.
