F1 The Movie Review Movie Talkies:

"I am going to win a million races, you should win at least one," says Joshua to Sonny—defining the entire movie in one sentence. F1 is more about teamwork than Sonny Hayes' journey, as he actually stays in the back seat throughout the film until the final 15 minutes. The movie follows a formulaic plot, intentionally designed for racing fans, and delivers blockbuster entertainment with a solid finishing touch. The best racing film in recent times—or even the last two decades—has to be Ford v Ferrari. You get two phenomenal actors (Christian Bale and Matt Damon), and an overwhelming climax that suddenly transforms the high-octane action into sentimental heartbreak, making it a timeless classic. F1 The Movie tries to do the same, but with a more restrained approach. It’s about the main character far removed from stardom and celebration, and that moment when he says, "It's not about money. It's about racing," lands hard—and so does the film. That is surely going to hit hard to some die hard racing fans.

F1 The Movie Story:

The story tracks Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a former F1 racer, who returns to the championship for his old buddy Ruben (Javier Bardem), the owner of the APXGP team. The second driver on the team is Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), a talented but rookie racer. Kate (Kerry Condon) is the technical director—a rare woman to achieve this post—and she must build a combat-ready car as demanded by Sonny, in order to make APXGP a winning team. The biggest challenge is the incompatible bond between Sonny and Joshua, which stands in stark contrast to the teamwork needed to win an F1 championship. Their ego clashes and on-track battles for glory jeopardize Ruben's dreams, but he still has faith in Sonny, who might just pull it off using his unconventional methods. How? Catch the adrenaline rush in the film.

F1 Movie Review:

As stated earlier, F1 The Movie has a formulaic storyline, combining artificial elements with a stroke of luck to make it all click. What truly stands out are the heart-thumping, breathtaking racing sequences, punctuated by fast-paced commentary and razor-sharp edits, made thrilling by Sonny's tactics. It’s the emphasis on teamwork that makes this film a winner, both within the story and for the audience. Another win is how the movie avoids clichéd drama and time-consuming romance like Rush (2013), opting instead to stay focused on the racing and the driver like FvF. There’s only one intimate moment between the leading pair, keeping the pace tight. Joshua’s character arc takes a bit too long to develop, which slows the film down in the middle. Also, the car-building scenes are overly technical. Some mechanical detail would have helped. I was hoping for a scene where Sonny guides Kate through the car-building process while the main director stands impressed. I waited long for such a scene—but it never came. That magical moment of collaboration, like we saw between Bale and Damon in Ford v Ferrari, is missing here. Furthermore, that one defining, mic-drop moment is absent in the climax, though the writer offers something else—something that’s likely to resonate deeply with certain viewers, as mentioned earlier.

F1 The Movie Cast:

Brad Pitt completely embodies the role of Sonny Hayes. If I ever wanted to see him in a character-driven performance with mass appeal, then my wish has been granted through F1 The Movie. His selfless demeanor, silent sacrifices, and nuanced expressions make Sonny a memorable character. Damson Idris delivers a commendable performance opposite Pitt, and he’ll likely gain more “followers” after this role. Kerry Condon is convincing, Javier Bardem shines as always, and Sarah Niles brings warmth as a caring mother. Kim Bodnia, Tobias Menzies, Shea Whigham, Joseph Balderrama, Callie Cooke, Abdul Salice, and others offer sincere support in their roles.

F1 The Movie Review:

F1 is powered by a superb technical crew that elevates the cinematic experience across every department. Starting with the cinematography—it's nothing short of fantastic. Claudio Miranda captures high-speed close-ups, frantic cuts, and high RPM-packed racing scenes that demand to be seen on the big screen. Thanks to the Warner Bros. India team and their PR, who arranged the screening at the best IMAX screen in the country, which definitely enhanced the experience. My final rating may even be influenced by that one reason alone. Watching on a giant IMAX screen, seated dead-center in the auditorium—truly the best view—is an unmatched experience. The sound design, background score, and music add further energy to the film. You’ll find yourself tapping your foot at least 4-5 times. The film also boasts a beautiful production design, making it look grand, and the editing works well for the most part—barring the middle portion. Surprisingly, the film has its fair share of humorous moments too, and the jokes land organically. Joseph Kosinski, who earlier took our breath away with Top Gun: Maverick, does it again with F1 The Movie. He hits almost all the right notes and delivers a bona fide blockbuster. With sharp commentary and surprising cameos from real racing legends, F1 is sure to leave every F1 aficionado satisfied. Go experience this high-octane extravaganza on the big screen—because it’s not meant for the small screen. “It’s not about money, it’s about racing.” Likewise, "It’s not about the movie, it’s about experiencing a thrilling ride."
