Ravi Kumar, aka Himesh Reshammiya, is BACK! The 80s-style masala action entertainers will never get old but can be redefined with a modern touch. Himesh Reshammiya's Badass Ravi Kumar proves why! This is how an action-driven masala film, filled with heroism, dialogue, action, stunts, comedy, romance, drama, and proper Indian masala, should be made. Because "logic is optional." You know what it means, Right?
Indian agent Ravi Kumar (Himesh Reshammiya) is sent on a mission to catch an international gangster, Carlos (Prabhu Deva). Carlos is after a reel that includes several secrets of Indian agencies to sell to a Pakistani gangster. Ravi Kumar has broken up with his girlfriend Madhu (Simone J), which, unbeknownst to them, is due to the conspiracy of Madhu's sister Laila (Kriti Kulhari), who also loves RK. They all go to Muscat to crack the deal, and our Badass agent hunts them down, not just for the nation's sake but for his personal revenge too.
The film is high on action and dialogues that are sure to go viral on the internet and receive hoots and applause at single screens. "Sher ke pair mein moch aane se jungle kutto ka nahi ho jata," "Abe jaa, teetar ka shikaar karne wale sher ka shikar karne ki sochte bhi nahi," "Kisi khwab ki itni aukat nahi ki Ravi Kumar usko dekhe aur wo pura na ho," and there’s one like these every 5-10 minutes. You can imagine how hysterical the entire thing is going to get over two and a half hours of the movie's runtime.
Himesh Reshammiya owns the character of Ravi Kumar and sets a new template for an aggressive and violent hero for the masses. We usually complain about a mainstream Bollywood hero not being as violent as a South movie hero; then here's your answer. Himesh, aka Ravi Kumar, is a perfect blend of action, violence, dialogue, attitude, and everything you expect from a mass hero. This movie will take him to the B & C centers who enjoy such elements and films.
Prabhu Deva is a comical villain with grey shades. "Underconfident logo ke liye Carlos ki team koi jagah nahi," he says after shooting a member of his team when asked about one of his good deeds. Simona J looks gorgeous, while Kirti Kulhari is given a sexy and intelligent role—perhaps her hottest role till date. Johny Lever and Sanjay Mishra's comedy adds more entertainment value to this fun-filled actioner. Sunny Leone contributes her glamour, Manish Wadhwa is decent, and so is the rest of the cast.
The film features some catchy musical numbers, each with its own variety. Dil Ke Taj Mahal Mein is a fun number with visual appeal that will make you dance. Tandoori Daysis another nightclub mixer that you can enjoy on weekends, and Terre Pyaar Mein is already a popular romantic number. The cinematography and editing both elevate the film's viewing experience. Regarding the production and art design, I’d say it’s a colorful and vibrant film throughout. The screenplay could have been better in some places, but that's acceptable. It goes over the top at times and unintentionally funny too, if that bothers you. The film could have chopped lengthy songs in the last quarter to make it more effective.
Keith Gomes made this film with one purpose: entertainment. It goes beyond that with its powerful one-liners and the unbeatable swag of the badass protagonist. That '80s magic is back with this one, and those who love that kind of cinema from the golden phase of Bollywood should not miss Badass Ravi Kumar at all. This is an out-and-out masala entertainer with commercial appeal for box office success.
