Baby John Review Movie Talkies:

Kalees makes his directorial debut in Bollywood with a massy Hindi flick, Baby John, starring Varun Dhawan in the lead role. This new launch vehicle for Varun Dhawan showcases him as a mass action hero, while Kalees establishes himself as a stylish mass-bonanza maker. Atlee's influence is also evident here, especially in the action scenes and the background score.

Baby John

The film features Varun Dhawan as John, a single father living with his daughter, Khushi (Zara Zyanna), whom he affectionately calls "Baby." The story flashes back to the past, introducing Satya Verma (Varun Dhawan), an honest police officer with his own rules and methods for punishing criminals. One of his latest targets is the son of a powerful man who has raped a schoolgirl and burned her alive. In retaliation, Satya burns him alive, leading to a power-packed interval block. He must pay with something more valuable, and the second half revolves around his current work and a new game.

Baby John

This official adaptation of Theri has made several changes to stand on its own. Wamiqa Gabbi's character introduces an unexpected twist not present in the original film, and we have a surprising cameo from Salman Khan at the end, which was also absent in the original. These changes make the film crisper and more engaging, while the social awareness angle of women's safety serves as a nice sidekick. The screenplay stretches for 164 minutes, which should have ideally been wrapped up in 150 minutes for the best results.

Baby John

Varun Dhawan unleashes a new action-hero image and a handsome police officer simultaneously. Satya and John are distinct personalities, and Varun portrays both of them with integrity. Keerthy Suresh looks beautiful, and her Hindi accent is much better than that of other South actresses working in Hindi films. Wamiqa Gabbi appears gorgeous as a teacher and then delivers a massy surprise that shouldn't be revealed here.

Baby John

Watch out for that interval block when Rajpal Yadav nails his monologue and then has one of the massiest scenes in the second half. "Comedy is a serious business," he says, and the entire theatre erupts with applause and whistles. Jackie Shroff presents a deadly villain, and his look is indeed ferocious. There is not a big supporting cast, but everyone has performed decently.

Baby John

Baby John is high on action and features stylish fight sequences. The background score and the Baby John title song are both fire, while the blue-dark theme adds a water touch to it. The film could have been edited better by trimming at least 15-20 minutes. Kalees' direction is good enough for anyone making a Hindi debut with a mass action flick. Baby John also contains two or three scenes that are extremely emotional and somewhat disturbing. It has been quite a while since we had a proper Hindi masala action flick, so here's Baby John to make your Christmas merrier. Overall, this is the perfect bonanza to end the year with. Go and enjoy "Good vibes only."
