Three cheers for a trio of ladies!
More appropriately, 'Ladies'… who're gearing up for the Big Time, courtesy Yash Raj Films with Ladies vs Ricky Bahl readying to illumine screens, come December 9, 2011.
Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma have been on a feverish crest of promotion for the YRF flick helmed by Maneesh Sharma, the second YRF venture that brings them together, post Band Baaja Baaraat. Inter-phews, sound bytes, magazine covers, newspaper interfaces… the works!
The three 'Ladies': Dipannita Sharma, Parineeti Chopra and Aditi Sharma, meanwhile, were kept shielded from the media spotlight. Until YRF decided to pull out the stops on the three gals… and present them to media masses at a Press event convened at Yash Raj Films Studios in suburban Mumbai.
The 'Ladies' ball was set rolling by Anushka Sharma… who strode on stage to welcome them, turn by turn.
Describing a supremely effervescent Parineeti Chopra as a "nautanki", Anushka asserted that she always knew that the former PR and marketing employee would take to acting, sooner or later."What's better is that Parineeti has conned the entire Yash Raj Fillms banner into believing that she's surely cut out to be an actress," laughed Anushka.
Displaying some more ebullience, Parineeti agreeing heartily said, "That's what my sister Priyanka (Chopra) used to say too. She always felt that my main ambition was to act… though I never felt it. But once I faced the camera, I knew that I had it in me to act. Now, I would not like to do anything else in my life. I know that I'm going to be compared to my sister Priyanka and I'm really looking forward to it, because she's such a good actress."
Enacting Delhi college student Dimple Chaddha, her character gets cheated by Sunny Singh, a gym fitness-trainer… and one of the con avatars of Ricky Bahl (Ranveer Singh).
Hailing the second entry as someone she's "known for a very long time," Anushka fondly called out to the second entity among the 'Ladies': Dipannita Sharma.
Looking svelte and stunning in a white top and denim ensemble, Dipannita said, "I've known Anushka from the time she came into modelling… and even then, I told her that she ought to become an actress."
Agreeing at once, Anushka said, "In fact, she was the first one to suggest that I should become an actress."
Dipannita esssays Raina Parulekar, an ambitious corporate professional who gets deceived at the hands of art –dealer Deven Shah, another nefarious persona served up by Ricky Bahl.
As Anushka announced the name of the third gal…in sasyayed a petite girl…Aditi Sharma, who enacts Saira Rashid, a 24-year old widow from Lucknow in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl.
"The best part is that Aditi is actually from Lucknow," said Anushka. "So, for her shooting there was a really memorable experience."
Agreeing whole-heartedly, Aditi said, "It felt great being watched by so many people in Lucknow itself… and being seen as somebody as opposed to the time when I would be wandering around anonymously and not be recognised, was a big high and it made a huge difference to me."
And then it was time to bring out the con-artiste supreme: Ricky Bahl!!
Even as Anushka hollered and asked him to join the 'Ladies'… there was a deafening… silence!
A minute later… a loud snatch of song… and the 'Ladies' man… Ranveer Singh… singing a fast 'rap', danced his way to the dais with a clutch of four roses, handing over one to each of them.
Giggled Anushka, "In fact, we had a standing joke on the 'LVRB' sets… that there are too many Sharmas in the film and that we should call it 'Sharmas vs Ricky Bahl'.
Describing them as the "surprise packet" of Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, Ranveer said, "They are all such good performers that it was a real pleasure working with them. We had lot of fun on the sets."
After a round of ribbing and good bonhomie on stage, it was first-rate fun all around… and the 'Ladies' conceded to show off their singing skills too at the insistence of Ranveer and Anushka.
And even as the 'Ladies' trilled away beautifully…. Ranveer Singh said, "Welcome to the choir of Yash Raj Films."
Hah, great and sound note, Singh.
