Top 5 Best Movies of 2024

Our 5 Best Movies 2024 :

2024 wasn't a great year for Bollywood, and I am referring to content more than the box office. I always say that if we don't provide good content, we will not have major hits or many hits in a year. We just need to figure out the commercial equation smartly with content, and then we'll see better results. This year, we have had some good films, but nothing close to "what a great movie" or "classic" status. Here’s our look at the top 5 BEST MOVIES of the year (author's choice).

Laapataa ladies

Laapataa Ladies

The first good film of the year. Kiran Rao's feminist drama may not be as great as suggested by others, but it is definitely a good film and a noteworthy work in cinema. I don't care about plagiarism claims since, having seen thousands of films, almost every second film is based on something else for me. Laapataa Ladies has an outdated idea of dowry and women's empowerment, which I would have called great 20 years ago, but definitely not in 2024. Yet, the simple texture and innocent characters make this film worth watching. Rao's direction doesn't try to bring art so much as it wants to fulfill the point it seeks to explore. All the youngsters have done well here, while Ravi Kishan and Chhaya Kadam were top-notch with the kind of experience they carry. Overall, it's a fine watch, but certainly not a classic as hailed by many.

Shaitaan Review - Ajay Devgn & R. Madhavan's Chilling Face Off In A Brutal Black Magic Flick

Shaitaan

A remake of the Gujarati hit Vash, this Ajay Devgn starrer is a refreshing break from regular horror movies in Bollywood. The days of Ramsay Bros. and Raaz-type films are gone and forgotten, and here comes a horror movie with a supernatural touch and that "vashikaran" idea, which easily connects with both the masses and classes. Though loose in parts, Shaitaan becomes a good watch due to the face-off between two acting powerhouses, Ajay Devgn and R. Madhavan, while Janki Bodiwala was impressive and deserves all the awards for Best Debut this year.

Chandu Champion

Chandu Champion:

Kartik Aaryan's entry into the substantial drama genre and character-driven cinema. Kabir Khan's directorial was quite slow in the beginning, as it was capturing the marathon journey of Muralikant Petkar, but the second half did the trick. Elements such as human drama, dreams, dedication, and emotional appeal took the film ashore, giving us an inspiring tale of a man who refused to give up. Let's salute, Mr. Petkar.

Kill

Kill:

Nikhil Nagesh Bhatt provided us with the desi version of John Wick, but with more emotion and conviction. Kill is easily one of the most violent films ever made in Bollywood, yet its setup—the train journey and action sequences designed around it—puts it in a different league. The film lacked a substantial storyline, as everything was predictable, but the screenplay and bloody action set pieces left everyone stunned for an hour or so. Lakshya made a promising debut despite a gory action role.

RATING - 3/5*

Stree 2

Stree 2:

By far, the most popular Bollywood movie of 2024. The sequel to Amar Kaushik's previous superhit Stree (2018), Stree 2 generated huge hype before its release and lived up to it completely. Kaushik finally returned to form after a below-par performance with Bhediya (2022), which neither impressed the audience nor became a box office hit. Stree 2 smashed box office records by delivering a proper cinematic experience along with excellent fan service, and it's one of the rarest mid-budget films to achieve that kind of box office success. Reason? Content, of course.
