The film is set in a chawl in Mumbai and revolves around Shiva (Meezaan) and Astha (Sharmin). Shiva is your typical Mumbaikar, who is not very happy with ‘outsiders’ coming into their state and grabbing ‘their’ opportunities. However, Astha believes that an Indian can work anywhere in India.
Though they start on a rather rough note, they end up falling in love. However, their love story hits a roadblock as the society doesn’t let them be and what happens then forms the rest of the story.
The plot is quite stale and we got so bored watching the trailer that we are sure it would be difficult to sit through this film. The actress looks strikingly similar to Kajol’s sister Tanisha. Meezaan and Sharmin bring certain freshness to the movie however, the newbies fail to impress with their acting skills.
Malaal is being helmed by acclaimed Marathi director, Mangesh Hadawale and the film has a strong Marathi flavour. Mangesh has also written the screenplay along with Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Bhushan Kumar, Mahaveer Jain and Krishan Kumar, the film is slated to release on June 28.
