War 2 opening day box office:

War 2 has finally hit the big screens, but its opening day numbers are not as explosive as expected. Starring Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan and Telugu superstar Jr. NTR, the film opened to ₹30 crore nett in the Hindi version. While this is a decent figure for most films, it’s far below the benchmark set by its predecessor War (2019), which starred Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff and created history with a ₹50 crore nett opening day collection in Hindi alone. That means War 2 is already ₹20 crore behind the original in Hindi markets.

War 2

The Telugu version, boosted by Jr. NTR’s popularity in the South, contributed around ₹22 crore nett, taking the all-India total to ₹52–53 crore nett for day one. While this is a good figure overall, it falls short of the sky-high expectations for a film of this scale.

War 2 Review: Hrithik Roshan & Jr. NTR Cook Spy Universe's Worst Dish Ever

Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 is the latest entry in Yash Raj Films’ Spy Universe, following blockbusters like Pathaan and Tiger 3. Along with Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, the movie also features Kiara Advani in a key role. Despite the huge buzz, the film’s reception on day one has been mixed, with many critics and fans pointing out flaws in the story and execution.

With a reported budget of ₹400 crore, theatrical recovery will be an uphill task unless the film shows strong growth over the weekend. Trade expects a jump in collections today (Independence Day) and steady numbers on Saturday and Sunday, but a massive surge seems unlikely.

At this pace, an extended weekend total of around ₹150 crore nett seems realistic, while a ₹200 crore weekend is almost out of reach. Now, all eyes are on how War 2 performs in the coming days to see if it can recover and match its blockbuster ambitions.
