War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, is shaping up to be the biggest Hindi film of the year — both in scale and budget. As per a recent report by Bollywood Hungama, the film’s budget has crossed ₹400 crore. Once the promotional and advertising (P&A) costs are added, the total budget is expected to fall in the range of ₹440–450 crore, making it the most expensive film in YRF's Spy Universe as well their filmography.

To compare, Tiger 3 was mounted on a budget of ₹300 crore with another ₹50 crore spent on marketing, while Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan came in at around ₹330 crore. War 2 has clearly surpassed both, setting a new benchmark for Bollywood in terms of production investment. The high stakes mean that box office performance will be crucial for the film’s profitability, especially for distributors and exhibitors.

In order to be classified a clean HIT, War 2 needs to earn at least ₹270–280 crore nett at the Indian box office. A collection in the ₹340–350 crore range will label it a super hit, while ₹420–430 crore or more would officially crown it a blockbuster. Although a large portion of the budget will be recovered through pre-release deals, OTT rights, and satellite sales, theatrical success is still vital for profit margins. The film is expected to do well overseas too, so we can expect the worldwide figures to make it easier for the film, even though the profit share from international markets is too low.

On the flip side, if the film underperforms and earns below ₹250 crore nett, it could fall short of expectations and be deemed underwhelming. However, given the extended holiday release window, massive star power, and fan buzz, trade expects War 2 will open to record numbers and maintain strong momentum.

Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 brings Hrithik Roshan back as Kabir and Jr. NTR in the role of an antagonist. The film also stars Kiara Advani as the leading lady and will hit cinemas on August 14, 2025.
