Karan Johar's Dharma Productions is bringing the iconic Dostana franchise back with a fresh twist. It has been 18 years since the original hit the big screen, and we can't wait to see what the new story has to unfold. Titled Dostana 2, the film is being designed as a full-fledged theatrical entertainer packed with music, comedy, romance, and drama.

According to sources, the highly awaited sequel is set for a theatrical release by the end of 2026. The film is currently in the pre-production stage and will begin filming in January 2026. Young and dynamic actors Vikrant Massey and Lakshya will be leading the project. The film will also serve as the launchpad for a fresh face, with a debutant actress playing the female lead.

"Dostana 2 has been in development at Dharma for a while, and the makers have crafted a perfect script that can carry the franchise forward in a progressive manner. Dostana 2 will feature Vikrant Massey alongside Lakshya and will mark the launchpad of a debutant as the female lead. The makers aim to take the film on the floors in January 2026 and release it at the end of next year," shared a source close to the development.

The source further confirmed that, contrary to rumors of an OTT release, the Dostana sequel will release only on the big screen. "Dostana 2 is being conceptualized as a theatrical film, featuring music, comedy, romance, and drama. Talks are ongoing with filmmakers, and a director will be locked in within a fortnight," the source added. So, brace yourselves for a new story of friendship and love.
