In an exciting new development, actress Vidya Balan has joined the cast of Jailer 2, the much-awaited sequel to the 2023 hit starring superstar Rajinikanth. The film, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, is already one of the most talked-about projects in South Indian cinema and is seeking pan-India appeal as the buzz goes wider.

Vidya will be seen playing the daughter of Mithun Chakraborty who is the main villain in this film. That puts Vidya opposite superstar Rajinikanth. A reliable source from the production revealed to HT Times, “Vidya plays the role of Mithun Chakraborty’s eldest daughter. Mithun is the leading antagonist in the film and will be seen alongside Rajinikanth sir.”

This marks Vidya Balan’s return to Tamil cinema after several years, and her character is said to have a strong emotional and action-driven arc.

According to reports, Jailer 2 is currently being shot in Chennai, with major portions involving Rajinikanth, Mithun, and Vidya already underway. The source added, “The film will move into post-production by January, with a release expected later in 2025.”
