Veteran Actor Satyen Kappu Passes Away

Hindi film and stage actor of the 1970s, Satyen Kappu passed away after suffering a fatal heart attack on Saturday. The actor was 76 and is survived by his wife and four daughters. The funeral took place at the Oshiwara crematorium on Sunday morning.

The actor, who has etched some memorable roles in films like Jawani Deewani, Seeta Aur Geeta, Kati Patang, Mausam, Yaadon Ki Baarat, Don, Sholay, and Deewar, had also been an active member of the IPTA. In fact, Kappu began his career in 1952 with the IPTA. He worked with top playwrights and directors of his time, including filmmaker Ritwick Ghatak, Prakash Mehra, Ramesh Sippy, Ravi Tandon and Ramesh Talwar. Kappu had acted in character roles in more than 80. The actor had been receiving treatment for a chest ailment and was seen to be recovering. The end apparently came very suddenly when he was having lunch with his family.
