Veteran actor Saeed Jaffrey, who had been suffering from age-related ailments, passed away at the age of 86 yesterday.
The news was shared by his niece Shaheen Aggarwal, who took to her Facebook page to write, ”Today, a generation of Jaffreys has passed away. Saeed Jaffrey has joined his brothers and sister and is rejoicing in the lap of his Heavenly Father, eternally.”
Born in Punjab, Saeed Jaffrey started his career as an actor in theatre. As an actor, he worked with internationally renowned actors like Sean Connery, Michael Caine (The Man Who Would Be King) and Pierce Brosnan (The Deceivers) among others and world class directors like Satyajit Ray (Shatranj Ke Khilari) and Richard Attenborough (Gandhi). He was also known for his work in television.
His notable works in Bollywood include Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Henna, Chashme Buddoor, Judaai, Dil, Ajooba. Saeed Jaffery was the first Indian to receive the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his contributions to drama.
