Three years after Shuddh Desi Romance, Vaani Kapoor has now returned with Befikre. While she has surprised one and all with an altogether different character portrayal, looks, personality and dialogue delivery, she has also managed to hold on to her own despite the hype energy of Ranveer Singh around her. Moreover, she has now returned to the screen as an Aditya Chopra heroine, something that only a few leading ladies have managed in the last 20 years. The film has hit the screens now and reactions have started coming in. Meanwhile, Vaani is happy that her film has managed to open well at the Box Office too.

We get chatting with Vaani.

Befikre has ended up surprising as well as shocking people. The film has turned out to be very different from the kind of films that Aditya Chopra has made in the past.

Yes, as a storyteller Adi is totally different from his earlier work. The very essence and soul of Befikre is so different from not just his earlier films but also many other Bollywood films that we see today. Of course when you come out of the theater you do feel in your heart that eventually it is an Aditya Chopra film. Ultimately this is a sweet film.

The promo didn't quite send out such vibes.

I know that the trailer didn't really give much away about the film. However, a lot was kept behind the scenes as a conscious move. There is this special treatment that Aditya Chopra always manages to give to a film of his though which makes it stand out from the rest and yet connect so very well with the audience. Adi was so sure about how he wanted to see my character Shaira and I just blindly followed his vision. All the workshops that I did with him helped.

I am sure you must have also practiced your dance moves a lot well in advance, considering the fact that you had four-five full blown dance numbers in there.

Oh yes, and I do love dancing a lot. I love the fact that you can always express love as a dancer. This is also a form of expression. I love watching Bollywood songs, I love watching Beyonce. It has been my passion to dance in a particular way and I am glad that I could pull it off in the film. I always wanted to work with (choreographer) Vaibhavi Merchant. I knew that if she would be the choreographer of my songs then I had to give my heart and soul and push my boundaries and limits. I worked really hard and gave it my best. I am happy the effort is showing on screen.

So what happens for your next film? There was a gap of three years between your last and this . Would the wait for your next turn out to be this long?

(Smiles) Hopefully not. That said, since there was a gap between Shuddh Desi Romance and Befikre, I could play a very different character which allowed me to be seen in a different light as an actor. This way, I could show my versatility. In my next film that I am a part of, I am hoping that I would be absolutely different all over again.
