Shahid Kapoor, who was last seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat, will be next seen in Shree Narayan Singh’s Batti Gul Meter Chalu and the trailer of the film was released today.
Set in Uttarakhand, the film revolves around happy-go-lucky friends (Shahid, Shraddha Kapoor and Divyendu Sharma), who are largely unconcerned with the electricity issues in their region. However, when Divyendu’s character ends up committing suicide after being frustrated over astronomical electricity bills affecting his factory and livelihood, Shahid takes up cudgels on his behalf and sues the electricity company, which is represented by Yami Gautam.
From what we could see in the trailer, the first half of the film comes across as too frivolous while the second half promises a powerful courtroom drama. Now, time will tell if this film becomes as big a hit as Shree Narayan Singh’s earlier film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha.
Batti Gul Meter Chalu is slated to release on September 21.
