This Aladdin Needs a Genie Desperately

There is lot of speculation surrounding the fate of Sujoy Ghosh's fantasy film, Aladdin, which stars Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Ritesh Deshmukh. It seems that the film is suffering the effects of the recession.

Apparently, it is more than that. Aladdin has been held up only because its producers Eros are yet to recover from the losses that they have suffered on Goldie Behl's Drona. That film too had a lot of fantasy elements and a lot of money was spent on special effects by the producers. There have been other problems plaguing the film. According to trade sources, Sanjay has been very stingy with his dates. Even when he has been present on the sets, the actor has just shot for a few hours, thus stretching the schedule needlessly. Aladdin has been in the making for quite a while now. According to sources, the film may be released by the middle of the year, but there enough chances that it may not. According to Ghosh, who earlier directed Jhankar Beats, the film's shooting is complete and they are now in the post-production stage. Without admitting to any kind of delay due to the financial battering that Eros has suffered, the director does admit that the film was initially scheduled for a Christmas release but was postponed due to the impending release of Ghajini.
