Sudipto Sen's controversial drama, The Kerala Story, is doing unexpectedly well at the Indian box office by giving a tough, or rather, equal fight to Hollywood biggie, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3. Both the films collected in the similar range, but there is a lot more to them than meets the eye.The Kerala Story minted approx. 7 crore on day 1, while Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 took off with a decent opening of 6.75 crore nett in India. The Kerala Story is weak in the south and super strong in the north, whereas GOTG 3 is registering better numbers down south.
The Kerela Story, with less-known stars and fewer screens, has done well on the first day and will certainly achieve hit status since the cost of production will be covered within a weekend only. On the other hand, GOGT 3 is suffering from the bad phase of the MCU but might see better results. The film needs to be held tight on weekdays to gain success.
