Vivek Agnihotri's A rated The Kashmir Files has kept the underage audience away but still managed to spread surprise on the first day. The film was released on 700 screens across the nation and minted 3.55 crore nett at the box office on Friday. That's really surprising considering the competition with a new release like Radhe Shyam, and two-week old Gangubai Kathiawadi, still running in many cinemas.
Giving audiences a glimpse of the terror, confusion, and sheer panic that consumed Kashmir at the time, The Kashmir Files takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions that surfaced during the tragic incident. The film has received good reviews from the critics and has grossed over 4.50 crore at the worldwide box office. With the help of positive word of mouth, the film is expected to do better over the weekend. Agnihotri's previous flick, The Tashkent Files (2019), had an opening of 36-37 lacs and this one is almost 9x bigger. On the other hand, Prabhas and Pooja Hegde starrer Radhe Shyam has had a dull opening in Hindi with collections in the range of 4.60 crore nett. In Telugu states, it flashed many housefull boards and raked in more than 30 crore nett, as per early estimates. Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi is still fetching good numbers with its third Friday numbers falling somewhere around 2.50 crore, which takes its total to over 107 crore nett.
