John Abraham in The Diplomat

The Diplomat opening weekend box office:

John Abraham's latest release, The Diplomat, maintained its level after the Holi festival, finishing with a below-average total over the weekend. The film opened with 4 crore nett on Friday, with the Holi festival providing some extra boost to its numbers, while the second day saw a slight increase. Usually, one would expect the film to show a drop on the second day, but it held steady and collected 4.50 crore nett.

The political thriller didn't see a significant jump on Sunday, but the numbers are fairly okay. It was competing with Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava, which turned out to be a huge blockbuster and showed a much higher jump on Saturday and Sunday. The masses favored Chhaava, while multiplexes showed their support for this Shivam Nair thriller.

The film collected approximately 4.75-4.80 crore nett on Sunday, taking its total to over 13 crore nett. It needs to show a steady hold on weekdays, and then it may have a chance to emerge as an "average" grosser, which would be considered a triumph for this less appealing film with no popular faces besides the lead actor.
