According to media reports, Sangeetha has approached the Chengalpattu family court seeking dissolution of their marriage after more than two decades together. The couple, who tied the knot in August 1999, share two children and have largely kept their personal life away from public attention.

The divorce petition reportedly invokes provisions of the Special Marriage Act, under which a spouse can seek separation on grounds such as adultery and cruelty. In her filing, Sangeetha is said to have alleged that Vijay was involved in an “extramarital relationship with an actress,” which she claims came to light in 2021. However, the actress in question has not been officially named, and there has been no confirmation from Vijay’s side so far. 

Reports also suggest the couple may have been living separately for some time, with a court hearing expected in the coming months. The development has surprised many fans, as Vijay has long maintained a very private family life despite his massive popularity.
