Love Games isn't Tara Alisha Berry's first film. This realization struck me when I got chatting with her about the Vikram Bhatt directed film. To her credit, she has seen a couple of Hindi releases before - Mastram and The Perfect Girl. Former still fetched some attention amongst critics, latter wasn't even released properly. In between, she did Anurag Basu's Chokher Bali on television. However, it is her 'swinger's tale', Love Games, which is fetching her all the attention. The promos have already made an impact, and with an unabashed announcement around this Bhatt affair going beyond bold, one waits to see what's in offer.
So was Tara always open to stepping into a film of this genre, or was it just incidental that Love Games happened?
Says Tara after a brief pause, "Well, I have actually never pondered over it. To get Love Games was more like a blessing for me. My debut film was Mastram which told the story of one of the biggest soft porn writers (by the same name) from India. My second film (The Perfect Girl) was a love story. Now here is Love Games which is so-called bold. I never had any reservation w.r.t. genre but honestly, I don't like the word 'bold' per se. That said, the fact that the film happened to me was incidental. I am not from a film family, so when you get such good work, you just want to go out there and give it your best shot."
In the film, Tara plays an independent working woman, a doctor to be precise, who steps into the lives of a couple (Gaurav Arora and Patralekha) as a 'sex object' no less.
"The character that I am playing, Alisha Asthana, is quite inspirational," Tara continues, "When you see the film, you would realize that she is not a one dimensional character. She is not just a victim; she is much more than that. The film is positive for me on many different levels."
How exactly is that?
"See, when I pick a film, my order of preference is the script, the director and then the character. When these three things are sorted, I am game for it. After that whether the film is an erotica or a romcom or a superhero film, they are all the same to me. None of it matters to me," says Tara before signing off.
We look forward to what plays on screen once Love Games, which is produced by Vishesh Films and T-Series, releases all over tomorrow.
