Zakir ji was a legendary figure in the music world for his exceptional tabla skills. Some even went on to say that he had "magical fingers." He was born on March 9, 1951, in Mumbai and has been hailed as one of the greatest tabla players in India and, to some extent, in the world. In 2009, Hussain ji won the Grammy in the Contemporary World Music Album category for his collaborative album Global Drum Project with Mickey Hart and Giovanni Hidalgo. He is a recipient of the Padma Shri in 1988, the Padma Bhushan in 2002, and the Padma Vibhushan in 2023, awarded by the Government of India. The music world has lost one of its best figures today, and this void will be tough to fill.
