Superman Kissing Scene Trimmed by Indian Censor Board:

Indian Censor Board has trimmed a kissing scene in Hollywood movie Superman. This recent trimming of a kissing scene between David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan in Superman by the Indian Censor Board has stirred yet another debate: where exactly do we draw the line? And nobody has an answer.

It’s baffling that in a country where comedies like Housefull regularly get away with crass, objectifying humour and vulgar innuendos under a U/A or A certificate, a simple and consensual kiss in a superhero film meant for global audiences becomes objectionable. Even more surprising is that a film like Sitaare Zameen Par — made for children — was allowed to retain multiple cuss words, while Superman, a PG-13 film in the U.S., gets sanitized. It's not that the kissing scene is entire cut down; it's there, but half trimmed. Doesn't that half do the same job? I could hear audiences gasping in cinema hall during the scene, immediately showing a thumbs down to the censore trimming. Isn't it their failure if the audience is showing instant disappointment.

This inconsistency in CBFC's standards is what frustrates viewers and creators alike. In today’s world, where access to global content is just a click away, Indian audiences—especially the younger generation—are already exposed to much more than what our censors “protect” us from. Hollywood films almost always feature a kiss; it’s not shocking, nor is it obscene. So why cut it?

More and more people online are questioning CBFC’s logic. Why do some films face strict scrutiny for normal scenes while others cross the line with impunity? Isn’t it time we moved towards a more consistent, sensible, and progressive certification system—one that respects context and intention rather than clinging to outdated moral codes? Because, if kissing in a Superman film is the problem, then maybe the problem lies elsewhere. Ban all films from kissing scenes. Or better, let censore be more strict so that other won't dare crossing lines. Which side are you on?
