Sunjay Kapur Estate Case Forensic Test Happening?

The long-running inheritance dispute over late industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s vast estate may be heading towards a decisive turn. On Tuesday, the Delhi High Court made an observation that could pave the way for forensic scrutiny of Kapur’s controversial Will, a move that has been strongly opposed so far.

The legal battle involves Kapur’s children with actor Karisma Kapoor, Samaira and Kiaan Kapur, who have been seeking a forensic examination of the Will since November. They have alleged inconsistencies in the document, which deals with Kapur’s business empire estimated to be worth over Rs 30,000 crore.

During the hearing, Delhi High Court registrar (judicial) Gagan Deep Jindal remarked that “any party can inspect any document,” referring to a High Court order dated September 10, 2025. This observation has been seen as a clear signal that inspection — and potentially forensic testing — of the disputed Will may now be unavoidable.

It was pointed out in court that paragraph 8 of the September 10 order clearly allows inspection by either side. Despite this, lawyers representing Priya Kapur, Sunjay Kapur’s third wife, and Azarias attempted to challenge the maintainability of the application filed by Samaira and Kiaan. In response, counsel for the children argued that Justice Jyoti Singh had already settled the issue in the earlier order. They also referred to another Joint Registrar’s order in a separate case where inspection had been allowed. The registrar agreed with this position.

The defence then sought a brief adjournment, following which the Joint Registrar fixed February 5 for further arguments and disposal of the application.

At the centre of the dispute is the Will itself. Questions have been raised about its authenticity, Sunjay Kapur’s signature, and the circumstances in which it was drafted. The Will names Priya Kapur as the sole beneficiary, while excluding his children and his mother, Rani Kapur, raising further doubts.

Adding to the controversy, Shradha Suri Marwah, named as the executor in the Will, claimed she was unaware of her appointment and received the document by email from an Aureus Group official. The registrar has now given her a final 10 days to file her rejoinder, indicating closer scrutiny ahead.
