Sunita Ahuja On Govinda's claims of Avatar offer:
Sunita Ahuja, wife of Bollywood actor Govinda, recently reacted to her husband’s surprising claim about Hollywood director James Cameron offering him a lead role in Avatar, which has been in the news for years.
In a candid interaction with Urfi Javed, she said she had no idea such an offer ever happened. "I don't know when the offer came. I have spent 40 years with Govinda. I don't know when the director and producer of Avatar came," she said honestly.
Govinda is lacking adaptation skills with today's cinema, says wife Sunita Ahuja –
Govinda first made the claim in an interview with Mukesh Khanna, recalling how a businessman in America introduced him to James Cameron. Govinda said Cameron offered him ₹18 crore (about $2.1 million then) to star in Avatar, which required a 410-day shooting schedule. He added that he even suggested the film’s title, Avatar.

However, Govinda said he turned it down, as the character was “handicapped” and would require him to be painted blue all over. “I said… if I paint my body, I will be in the hospital,” he explained.
Sunita’s response now casts doubt on the story’s timeline. She doesn’t recall any conversation with Cameron or mention of 410-day shooting or body paint. Her words suggest surprise and unawareness, raising questions about whether Govinda misremembered an interaction or misunderstood an offer. Pahlaj Nihalani had once said that Govinda was offered some other Hindi movie that was titled Avatar, but he mistook it as James Cameron's Avatar (2009).

Sunita didn't deny Govinda's account outright, but her reaction shows that even close family weren’t aware of such a big moment. Her simple, honest statement—“I don’t know when the director… came”—resonates because it highlights a genuine disconnect in their shared memories.
Govinda has often been trolled for his comments because many believe that he is speaking out of delusion and he is not that big enough to get an offer from Cameron for the biggest film in the world at the time. For now, the Avatar offer remains an intriguing anecdote, one that has sparked curiosity but also made many wonder: did it really happen, and if so, when? Let us know what you think about it.
