The 54th Filmfare Awards function saw young actors, Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan set aside their rivalry and displayed a wonderful camaraderie as they co hosted the awards, which came in for a lot of flak last year when they were hosted by Shahrukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan.
The duo of Imran and Ranbir also had their share of fun as they poked fun at one and all, but all in a light vein. There was also an attempt to bring out hope in these times of severe recession. One of the highlights of the show was Imran impersonating Aamir Khan in Ghajini with all the nominations written on his body, while Ranbir did a Shah Rukh from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. There were few surprises in store with Hrithik Roshan taking the Best Actor Award for Jodhaa Akbar and Priyanka Chopra taking home the Best Actress Award for her performance in Fashion. The Best Supporting Actor Award went to Arjun Rampal and Kanagana Ranaut, while Ashutosh Gowariker bagged the Best Director Award. Actor Om Puri received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Giving away the award to him was Amitabh Bachchan, who was present on the occasion with his son Abhishek and daughter in law Aishwariya Rai Bachchan. He was quite cool about sharing the front row with old flame Rekha. The Lifetime Award was shared between Om Puri and veteran costume designer and India's Oscar winner, Bhanu Athaiya. The awards covered mainstream films like Jodhaa Akbar and Rock On and also small budget films like Mumbai Meri Jaan. Like always, there were performances galore as B Town turned up in full force for the lady in black.
