The much‑anticipated collaboration between acclaimed filmmaker SS Rajamouli and Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu finally has a tentative theatrical release date: April 9, 2027.

According to multiple industry reports, Varanasi is being positioned for a grand global launch on this date, aligning with the Hindu festival Sri Rama Navami, which adds cultural significance and strategic box‑office potential to the film’s debut. Not to forget, Rajamouli's Bahubali 2 was also released in April and it remains his biggest hit to date.

Touted as one of the most ambitious Indian films ever made, Varanasi reunites Rajamouli with top talent both in front and behind the camera. Mahesh Babu heads a star‑studded cast including Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, and the project features a reported massive budget estimated around ₹1,300 crore, with shooting designed for IMAX formats to attract global audiences.

The film’s official title was unveiled during an event in Hyderabad last November, where fans were introduced to Mahesh Babu’s intense character look and first visuals from the project. Varanasi promises to blend mythology, high‑octane action, and Rajamouli’s signature world‑spanning storytelling—fueling expectations for a pan‑Indian and international success. 

In a first for Indian cinema, the official teaser was premiered in Paris at Le Grand Rex on January 5, 2026, underscoring the makers’ global ambitions and the worldwide anticipation surrounding this epic spectacle.  With its April 2027 release date, Varanasi is shaping up to be a landmark film in Indian cinema’s global journey.
