Sonam Khan opens up about her Bikini scene:
Actress Sonam Khan recently took a nostalgic trip down memory lane, sharing a candid story about her first day on a film set and how her journey in Indian cinema began — with a bikini and a bar of chocolate. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Sonam recalled shooting her debut scene for Yash Chopra’s 1988 film Vijay, where she was introduced running on a beach in a bikini, inspired by Bo Derek’s famous beach sequence from the Hollywood film 10. Check out her post below:
Sonam revealed that it was Yash Chopra himself who conceptualized the scene after being fascinated by Bo Derek’s iconic moment. “Yash ji was inspired by the legendary beach run of Bo Derek in 10, and that’s how he chose my introduction scene in Vijay,” she wrote. Despite it being her first day facing the camera, Sonam said she was “surprisingly at ease” during the shoot, adding that she spent the day happily munching on Five Star chocolate bars — a treat that became her lucky charm for every shoot thereafter.

She fondly remembered how Yash Chopra and her co-star Rishi Kapoor ensured she felt comfortable during the bold sequence. “My hairstylist would come running with a dressing gown after every take — Yash ji and Rishi Kapoor Sir had both instructed her to do so. They had so much class and dignity,” she shared.
Interestingly, Sonam revealed that two years later, Yash Chopra offered her Aaina, a film she had to decline as she was getting married at just 18. “Nonetheless, my dear friend Amrita Singh did a fabulous job in Aaina,” she added.
With this story, Sonam reminded fans of a time when glamour, grace, and professionalism blended seamlessly under Yash Chopra’s golden touch. Did you really enjoy the scene featuring Sonam? Let us know.
