Shraddha Kapoor gave a look test for Munjya:
In a surprising revelation, Munjya director Aditya Sarpotdar shared that actress Shraddha Kapoor had originally given a look test for the film to play a lesbian character. Speaking in an interview with Moviefied, the director revealed that the story was initially written from a female perspective.

Writer Yogesh Chandekar had developed the script around a female protagonist named Bittu, who was in love with her best friend. According to Sarpotdar, the early version of Munjya followed the emotional journey of a girl struggling to express her feelings. In the story, only the character Rajji understood her situation. “She tells Rajji, ‘I’m in love with my best friend; nobody would get that,’ and then Munjya enters the picture, and she defends her best friend,” the filmmaker recalled from the original script.

Aditya Sarpotdar further mentioned that both Shraddha Kapoor and Alia Bhatt were considered for the role of Bittu, and Shraddha had even taken a look test. However, the idea of the film later evolved when Sarpotdar joined the project. He explained that he wanted to simplify the narrative to focus on a single emotional core. “I always feel that the core heart and narrative of a film should be one, not multiple,” he said, adding that audiences prefer a focused story rather than too many intertwined elements.
