Hollywood actor James McAvoy was attacked by a stranger in Toronto while attending the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The incident took place late on Monday, September 8, at Charlotte’s Room, a bar located close to TIFF’s main venue.

According to eyewitnesses, the X-Men was at the bar with producers of his film California Schemin’ when a heavily intoxicated man, who was already being escorted out by staff, suddenly approached and struck him in the face. The actor had no prior interaction with the man, and the assault appeared to be completely unprovoked.

Reports state that McAvoy was caught off guard by the blow, but he quickly composed himself. Bar staff and others present immediately intervened, removing the man from the premises. Fortunately, McAvoy was not seriously injured and chose to remain at the bar following the incident. Sources also noted that he stayed calm and did not escalate the situation further.
The 45-year-old actor is in Toronto to promote his directorial debut, California Schemin’, which had its world premiere at TIFF earlier in the week. The film is a biographical musical inspired by the real-life Scottish hip-hop duo Silibil N’ Brains, who famously pretended to be American to break into the music industry.
