Liliput on Shah Rukh Khan's Zero vs Kamal Haasan's Appu Raja comparison:

Veteran actor and comedian Liliput has made a bold statement against Shah Rukh Khan, accusing him of copying legendary actor Kamal Haasan's portrayal of a dwarf in the 1989 film Appu Raja (Apoorva Sagodharargal) for his 2018 film Zero.

Zero Shah Rukh Khan

In a recent interview with Red FM, Lilliput criticized Zero, where Shah Rukh Khan played a vertically challenged man. He said the film relied too heavily on visual effects and failed to portray the real physicality and emotions of a dwarf. "So how will you act that out? You will make him look smaller technically. We know you are good-looking and cute, so our impression of what you are ends there," he remarked. "We are not looking at a dwarf; we are looking at a hero who has been made to look like a dwarf via visual effects."

Kamal Haasan Appu Raja

Lilliput, who has played many memorable roles in Indian cinema and TV, praised Kamal Haasan for his attention to detail in Appu Raja. He said, "Look at Appu Raja's intelligence. Kamal Haasan remained original and also picked out the details of the physicality of a dwarf person. Dwarfs are a little distorted-their fingers are smaller, a little thicker; arms, face, and feet are different."

He didn't hold back when comparing the two stars, saying, "Kamal ji ki aap copy kar rahe ho. Unke acting ki charno ki dhool bhi nahi ho aap (You are copying Kamal ji. And you are not even equal to the dirt on his feet)."

Aanand L Rai's Zero, despite high expectations, failed at the box office and was widely criticized for its weak storyline. Lilliput's comments have come right after the National Award win by Shah Rukh Khan for his double role in Jawan (2023).
