Salman Khan Moves Delhi High Court For Personality Rights Protection:

In a petition slated for hearing on December 11 before Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora, the Sikandar actor seeks broad protections against social media platforms, e-commerce sites and other digital entities that allegedly exploit his persona without consent. He contends that such misuse — ranging from unauthorised merchandise bearing his image to misleading ads and potential deepfakes — not only infringes on his “personality rights” but also misleads the public and allows third-parties to profit from his fame.

The concept of “personality” or “publicity” rights allows a public figure to control and monetise their identifiable traits — name, photograph, voice, likeness — and prevents others from exploiting these attributes for commercial gain without permission.

Salman Khan’s petition adds to a growing wave of similar legal actions. In recent months, other high-profile personalities such as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Kumar Sanu, Hrithik Roshan, Karan Johar, and Nagarjuna — among others — have sought or secured interim protection from the Delhi High Court against similar unauthorised usage of their identity.

Salman’s move reflects the evolving digital landscape — where social-media virality, deepfakes, and celebrity-themed e-commerce pose risks to reputation, privacy, and rightful commercial control. If the court grants relief, it could shape how celebrity identity is protected in India’s age of digital content and AI proliferation. And mostly likely they will!
