Highway, 2 States, Heropanti, Kick
4 films. 4 successes. This is how producer Sajid Nadiadwala‘s track record read in 2014. While Kick, which was also Sajid’s directorial outing, went on to enter the 200 crore club, 2 States was the first ever 100 crore success for Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. Heropanti marked the launch of Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon, while going past the 50 crore mark. On the other hand Highway may not have brought in big moolah but was a critical success and a prestigious outing for Sajid.
Circa 2016, and Sajid is pretty much aiming for a hat-trick.
"He has already seen a big success in Baaghi, which was the second time he entrusted Tiger Shroff and director Sabbir Khan to deliver as a team. The film was a clean superhit after it took a very good opening. Further to that, Housefull 3 too entered the 100 crore club and kept Sajid’s faith intact in the franchise that is spearheaded by Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh and Jacqueline Fernandez. Now he (with Sunil Lulla as the producer as well) is all set to release Dishoom where he has roped in Varun Dhawan for the first time ever. Industry is positive that the film would bring in good numbers," says a trade insider.
There is a good reason for such a declaration to be made. After all, it would be three weeks since the release of Sultan that a big film would finally be hitting the screens. Other than the Salman Khan starrer, no other Hindi film has clicked at all. Audience is waiting for a biggie to strike and what other way than to step into a hardcore commercial entertainer that looks young and entertaining.
"Moreover, the camaraderie of John Abraham and Varun Dhawan is expected to be the highlight of the film," a close associate adds, "The film has everything from buddy-cops to match fixing to cricket to chases all around. Moreover, director Rohit Dhawan has brought in the kind of action in Dishoom which belongs to never-seen-before variety."
Considering the kind of benchmark that Sajid has set himself in Kick when it comes to action, rest assured he wouldn’t have settled for anything lesser for Dishoom as well. The answer would be there for one and all when Eros releases the film, with Jacqueline Fernandez and Akshaye Khanna in interesting roles, across globe on 29th July.
