Saiyaara Time A Moment To Remember
Saiyaara is Another South Korean Movie Adaptation:
Mohit Suri has carved a niche for himself in Bollywood by bringing intense, emotional love stories to life — many of which are inspired by Korean cinema. Over the years, several of his popular films have been unofficial remakes or heavily inspired by South Korean dramas. Murder 2 was inspired by The Chaser, Awarapan was loosely based on A Bittersweet Life, and Zehar drew similarities with The Truth About Love. Even Ek Villain took cues from the Korean film I Saw the Devil.

Continuing this trend, Suri’s latest film Saiyaara is yet another adaptation — this time of the 2004 Korean classic A Moment to Remember. While the original film tells the heartbreaking story of a woman who develops early-onset Alzheimer’s disease and slowly begins to forget her husband, Saiyaara brings a younger, more contemporary spin to the narrative.

In Saiyaara, rising singer Krish Kapoor (played by debutant Ahaan Panday) falls deeply in love with Vaani (Aneet Padda), a passionate writer. Just as their love blossoms and marriage is on the cards, Vaani is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Unlike the original, where the disease sets in post-marriage, Suri shifts the emotional conflict to the courtship phase. Vaani’s diagnosis becomes a major turning point, not just in their relationship but also in Krish’s budding music career, forcing him to choose between love and ambition.
While Saiyaara adds a musical and youthful touch, the emotional depth remains faithful to the original. Once again, Mohit Suri proves that he has a flair for adapting Korean classics into heartfelt Bollywood dramas, while giving them a local flavor. Just like his previous films, which are driven by musical narratives, the new one's no different. You might have seen the same story in Ajay Devgn and Kajol's U Me Aur Hum (2008), but there is brushing of Aashiqui 2 (2013), which was a remake of iconic Hollywood musical, A Star Is Born (1937).
