Acclaimed costume designer, Sabyasachi Mukherji conducted a master class for a select group of Melbournians on Indian textiles and Bollywood costumes, on Thursday at the ongoing Melbourne Indian Film Festival.
Sabyasachi revealed the role of costume and fabric designs in a creating a powerful narrative in the movies. The couturier revealed that he even insisted on dressing the non-speaking part actors on the set of the acclaimed movie Black and also created a finite balance on screen between fabric, the weight of the shoes, the colour of lipstick and even the floorboard’s tint. "Let us not sympathise but empathise with the character," says Mukherji.
"It is evident in every production still, he showed us, how he developed the art of portraying the psychological undercurrent of a character through his costume designs," says a person who attended his class.
The people who attended his class were mesmerized, amazed and even inspired by the designer.
