Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and starring Ranveer Singh, a special teaser of Mr. India 2 has now been put on hold, owing to multiple controversies around the project. It looks like the controversy around not acquiring the creative rights from the original makers before announcing the remake of this film is just not willing to wither away any time soon. As per reports the makers of Mr. India 2 trilogy were all set drop a surprise teaser for all the fans of the cult classic, by releasing a special teaser of Mr. India 2, which will be a spin- off of 1987's cult classic. The teaser of Mr India 2 with Ranveer Singh in the titular role, and ending it with the iconic dialogue from the original, 'Mogambo Khush Hua' on a blank screen, was supposed to release on January 26, 2020.
Reportedly Boney Kapoor sold the creative rights of the film to Zee, but when he found out about the release of the teaser, he requested them to put it on hold for a while. As per reports he has requested Zee to credit him as a co-producer of the film as well.
Recently the director of the original Shekhar Kapur expressed his grief for having no knowledge about the upcoming trilogy of Mr India 2, he also shared how no discussion was made with makers of the original film, before announcing the remake. He also took to Twitter and hinted, that he may take legal actions against Mr India 2 trilogy makers, for not acquiring the creative rights of the film from him.
Sonam Kapoor took to social media to share her disappointment about the same. Sonam stated that it's quite disrespectful and underhanded for the makers to have not consulted her father Anil Kapoor, nor the film's director Shehkhar Kapur before announcing the film's remake. Sonam also mentioned that her father was just not the hero of the film but also a part producer of the cult classic, in-spite of that he had no knowledge of this remake.
Ali Abbas Zafar recently announced Mr. India trilogy, which will be set in the superhero universe. The director will also write the script of the trilogy for which he has partnered with Zee Studios. The new Mr India, set in the contemporary superhero world, will be a re-imagination of 1987 cult classic Mr India's iconic characters, which were played by Anil Kapoor, Sridevi and Amrish Puri.
