Around a couple of years back, there had been news that Tigmanshu Dhulia is planning to make a film based on the life of swashbuckling dacoit Sultana Daku, who used to operate in North India during the British Raj and was considered the Indian version of outlaw Robin Hood.

We have now heard that though the film is being made, it is not by Dhulia but by Madhureeta Anand for producers Rahul Mittra and Raju Chadha. We have also heard that the makers of the film have signed up Randeep Hooda to play Sultana Daku and that the film is slated to go on floors in April next year.

For those who do not know this, Madhureeta’s independent film, Walking on a Moonbeam, won the Silver Conch at the Mumbai International Film Festival in 2006, and the documentaries, Education – A Reality or a Myth, Kumbh Mela – In Search of Salvation, and short film, Sin, were lauded at several global film festivals.

The film will be shot in the Terai regions of Uttar Pradesh and Kazakistan.
