How Ranbir Kapoor Chose Ramayana Over Kishore Kumar Biopic; Read Here –
Film maker Anurag Basu has made an interesting revelation that actor Ranbir Kapoor had to choose between Ramayana and Kishore Kumar biopic (Movie Talkies).
Ranbir Kapoor Chose Ramayana Over Kishore Kumar Biopic
In a candid interview, filmmaker Anurag Basu confirmed that actor Ranbir Kapoor opted to star in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious mythological epic Ramayana instead of leading the long-gestating Kishore Kumar biopic — a film Basu had been developing for over a decade. The decision, while difficult, came down to scheduling and the scale of the Ramayana project.
Basu explained to BBC News, “Ranbir had a tough choice in life – Kishore Kumar or Ramayana. It was very difficult for him. In the end, he chose Ramayana, and I think it was the right decision.” This quote underlines just how weighty that decision was for both the actor and the director.
The fate of the Kishore Kumar biopic remains uncertain, with Ranbir no longer available for the role. Reports suggest the project may now be offered to another major star, possibly Aamir Khan. While some reports suggest that this ambitious project is now shelved.
Basu also shared that he and Kapoor were eager to unite again after their past successes like Barfi (2012) and Jagga Jasoos (2017), but conflicting commitments made the collaboration impossible this time.
Ramayana
On the other hand, Ramayana is shaping up to be one of the biggest films in Indian cinema. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and co-starring Sai Pallavi, Yash, Sunny Deol, and Ravi Dubey, it is being produced across two parts, slated for Diwali 2026 and 2027. With a reported budget of over ₹4,000 crore and music by A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer, the film promises epic scale and global appeal.
