After months of speculation, Rajkummar Rao has officially confirmed that he will be portraying cricket legend Sourav Ganguly in his much-awaited biopic. The actor, known for his versatility and commitment to roles, made the announcement following Ganguly’s own confirmation.
Speaking to NDTV, the Stree 2 actor said, "Now that Dada (Sourav Ganguly) has already said it, let me also make it official — yes, I am playing him in his biopic," Rajkummar said. "I am nervous. It's a huge responsibility, but it's going to be a lot of fun."
The film, which has been in the pipeline for a while, will trace the journey of the former Indian cricket captain — from his early days to becoming one of India’s most iconic cricketers and a transformational leader in Indian cricket. Sourav Ganguly, popularly known as 'Dada', is revered not just for his aggressive style of captaincy, but also for nurturing a new generation of cricketers who went on to dominate world cricket.
Rajkummar Rao's casting has already sparked curiosity and excitement among fans, given his track record of portraying real-life characters with depth and authenticity. While details about the rest of the cast and director remain under wraps, the project is expected to go on floors soon.
This marks another major real-life character for Rao, who has earlier impressed audiences with biopics like Shahid and Srikanth. Hindi audiences are very much fond of sports biographical drama with movies like MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Sachin: A Billion Dreams, and 83 The Movie.
