Veteran Tamil filmmaker K Balachander, who had been unwell since the past few days, passed away on Tuesday evening in Chennai, claim sources.
Known as the guru of South superstars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, K Balachander was known for pushing the envelope and making movies that broke the barriers of accepted standards of morality in conservative Tamil society.
On getting to know about his mentor's demise, Rajini reportedly was quite emotionally disturbed and spent an hour with Balachander's family. For those who do not know this, it was K Balachander who introduced Rajinikanth to cinema with his film Apporva Raagangal in the year 1975.
Balachander is survived by his wife Rajam, son Prasanna and daughter Pushpa.
