Raj Kundra Summoned in 60 Crore Cheating Case

Businessman Raj Kundra, husband of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, has been summoned by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police in connection with a ₹60.48 crore cheating case. Originally asked to appear on September 10, Kundra requested more time and is now scheduled to meet investigators on September 15. Meanwhile, a Look Out Circular (LOC) has been issued against both Kundra and Shetty, preventing them from leaving the country amid the investigation.

So far, Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra had been summoned three times during the preliminary inquiry. Each time, they cited their stay in London and sent a lawyer in their place. The EOW found the information shared by the attorney insufficient, which led to the registration of a formal FIR.

In addition, investigators have also issued a summons to the auditor associated with the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), likely to examine the company’s books and resolve the discrepancies.

The case centers around a complaint filed by businessman Deepak Kothari, director of Lotus Capital Financial Services, who alleges that between 2015 and 2023, he invested funds earmarked for business expansion in Best Deal TV Pvt. Ltd., a company in which the couple had interests. However, Kothari claims the money was diverted for personal use, not business—as initially promised.

This legal episode marks yet another chapter in Raj Kundra’s complex legal history, which includes a prior investigation linked to adult content and fraud. He has previously been involved in controversies such as spot-fixing in IPL and a porn content racket.

As the EOW probe progresses, both the couple’s legal team and investigators will be keenly watching how the questioning and evidence unfold in the days ahead. Mr. & Mrs. Kundra are yet to make any official statement on the matter.
