R. Madhavan About Returning to Romance:
R. Madhavan is making a heartwarming return to romance with Netflix's Aap Jaisa Koi, but this time, it’s not about youthful passion—it’s about mature love, self-reflection, and emotional honesty. Known for iconic roles in films like Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, Alaipayuthey, and Tanu Weds Manu, Madhavan now steps into the shoes of Shrirenu Tripathi, a 42-year-old Sanskrit teacher from Jamshedpur, in this upcoming Netflix release.
Directed by Vivek Soni (Meenakshi Sundareshwar), Aap Jaisa Koi explores the quiet intensity of middle-aged romance. Shrirenu's world shifts when he meets Madhu Bose (Fatima Sana Shaikh), a confident, independent French teacher in her 30s. Their dynamic defies stereotypes and centers around mutual growth and equality rather than flashy gestures. The film emphasizes "barabar wala pyaar"—love rooted in emotional maturity and respect.

"I didn't choose this to go back to romance. I chose it because it was an interesting story, age appropriate, and topical,” says Madhavan. “There are only a few chances left to star in a love story — and fewer that feel this honest."
Madhavan praises co-star Fatima Sana Shaikh, calling her "incredibly charming," adding, "She’s a dynamic, younger actor—and I had to make sure the pairing looked palatable.” Fatima returns the compliment, calling him "emotionally intelligent and sharp," and says she learned from him every day.

Aap Jaisa Koi is not just a romance—it’s a modern-day take on evolving love, breaking down bias, and redefining companionship with dignity and depth.
