It was highlighted in this column last week that despite Fitoor boasting of bigger stars, it would be pretty much a photo finish between the Katrina Kaif starrer and Sanam Re as far as the opening was concerned. Well, as it turned out, the situation turned out to be comfortably in favor of the Pulkit Samrat, Yami Gautam and Urvashi Rautela starrer as the film not just did better on the opening day but stayed the same for rest of the weekend as well.
The film currently stands around the 17.05 crore mark and that has ensured that the costs would be recovered by the T-Series production. The film has been made at the cost of 20.5 crore (including P&A) and 16 crore have already come in from music, satellite and overseas sale. With 80% of the cost already recovered, it would be a cakewalk for the distributors to recover their investment.
The film's reports have been average but from commerce point of view, this Divya Khosla Kumar directed film is a safe affair. For Pulkit Samrat, the film has come as a welcome relief since he was coming with a couple of disasters <Bangistan, O Teri> and a low earner <Dolly Ki Doli> behind him. The film has taken a better opening weekend when compared to Pulkit's last hit Fukrey <9.8> crore. However, that film had grown rapidly with good word of mouth and Sanam Re basically has one week to make maximum moolah.
