Pakistani Actress Momal Sheikh - "It was easier for me to adopt since Happy Bhag Jayegi is based in Pakistan"

Promos of Happy Bhag Jayegi are on and they have managed to create an instant impression. While the film is being much awaited due to Diana Penty's comeback after Cocktail, another female who is finding good attention coming her way is Momal Sheikh. As Abhay Deol's love interest in the film, the actress has made her presence felt in the promo. Now she is looking forward to making it big in the industry as well with her debut Bollywood flick. Hailing from Pakistan, married and a mother of a kid, Momal is happy that she is enjoying the best of all worlds in her personal as well as professional life.

Abhay is known to be quite a natural in front of the camera. How was to be paired with him?

He is a great actor and has done his homework very well. He is a great co-star and while I prompted him on the Urdu bit, he helped me a lot as well. We used to do many rehearsals together, especially in terms of comic timing. He is very professional and soon we became friends. In fact things were very easy with Diana, Ali (Fazal) and other co-stars as well. It was great fun to be working with them.

So how does the love triangle between Abhay, Diana and you turn out to be? Is it what brings in all the entertainment?

(Laughs) Well, that is one thing that you have to check out in the film. That's the main part which we haven't put in the promo. Humne tay kar liya tha ki yeh toh bilkul nahi bataana. You would love it what you see on screen.

What one sees on screen is the fact that Happy Bhag Jayegi is based in Pakistan. Did that further make you happy about picking it up?

Yes, it was easier for me to adopt. I remember that they wanted to take the audition ASAP. In fact if the role would have been that of an Indian with Hindi as the main language, I would have asked for more time to prepare and to adopt to the character and the culture. However, since they wanted a Pakistani girl jo Urdu achche andaaz mein bol sake and someone who can take a stand, I was game for it. Uss lihaaz se mere liye aasaan tha yeh film karna. (Smiles) I was nervous though that I would be working with Abhay. I was told that mujhe Abhay ko Urdu lehza sikhaana hai aur kabhi kabhi tok bhi dena hai.

The film comes from the house of Aanand L. Rai. I am sure you must have seen his films from the past, including Tanu Weds Manu and its sequel.

Of course, I have seen his films. Before signing Happy Bhag Jayegi, I had my own boundaries that I won't be doing this or that. Then Aanand asked me to read the script at the least. After reading it, I realized that when it comes to Aanand and his films, as an actor you end up doing the right thing.
