Ta Ra Rum Pum looks like English films School Days , Musical??

School days musical was about college campus romance and Ta Ra Rum Pum is family drama with car racing as backdrop. So to be comparing these two films are like comparing Sholay and Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge.

Sports films with exception of Lagaan hasn?t met with huge success in India?

Lagan was basically a film about human spirit with cricket used as backdrop. Likewise in my film car racing is just backdrop. It is basically emotional family drama.

You repeated Saif Ali in Tara Ra Rum Pum but not Prieti Zinta?

When I wrote Salaam Namaste I had only Prieti Zinta in mind. Likewise when I working on Ta Ra Rum Pum I had only one actress in mind and that was Rani Mukherjee.

Music of Tara Ra Rum Pum hasn?t picked up yet?

I was anticipating that. See when I started this film I had told Vishal Shekhar that for this film I do not want todays hiphop music. Since it?s a family drama I wanted melodious music like that of Shankar-Jaikishan and L-P?s music of 60 and 70?s. So it?s kind of music which will grow on you slowly but surely.

After the release of Salaam Namaste you had said that next time aroud you will make film which will liked by any and sundry?

That is because Salaam Namaste was aimed at certain section and was liked at certain territories more hence I wanted to make film which will make everyone happy and does business everywhere. And I am confident that Ta Ra Rum Pum is that film.

So you are expecting it to be bigger hit than Ta Ra Rum Pum?

It has to be, otherwise all efforts will go in vain. Reason is that look and budgetwise Ta Ra Rum Pum is far bigger than Salaam Namaste.

Your film subjects are normally based on abroad?

In Salaam Namaste boy and girl are away from their parents hence thay are abroad. In Ta Ra Rum Pum backdrop is car racing. And it?s not very popular in India hence backdrop again is abroad.

But it seems you internationally choose subjects which happen abroad?

That?s also true. Simply because I don?t find shooting outdoors in India easy. Abroad outdoor shoots are more smooth. You can finish off entire film in 3 months.

Do you ever take any advice from Aditya Chopra or Kunal Kohli on film level?

I am very instinctive person. And typical Leo. I rarely take any advice from anyone. Be it on professional or private subject and Aaditya and Kunal know that.

You had given Javed Jaffrey a very interesting role in Salaam Namaste. More fireworks are expected from him in Ta Ra Rum Pum?

I am huge friend of Javed Jaffrey since Meri Jung days. I believe that he is one of the finest actors of our time. We just have not used his talent properly. Though everyone liked him in Salaam Namaste, I was feeling little guilty as thought. I have also done with him what others have done. As I had used him as caricature. But here in Ta Ra Rum Pum you will see the artist of Javed. He will surprise everyone with his performance.

How about turning to production like Kunal Kohli has turned?

That is far away. Right now I am waiting for the result of Ta Ra Rum Pum.
