publive-imageAngela Lansbury, one of the last surviving actresses from the golden age of Hollywood cinema, passed away this morning at her house in Los Angeles. She was 96 years old and died peacefully, as per the statement given by her family members.

Angela Lansbury had one of the longest careers in the entertainment industry, spanning eight decades. Throughout her life, Angela received an Honorary Oscar Award, 3 Oscar nominations, 18 Emmy nominations, 1 Grammy nomination, 6 Golden Globe Awards, and 5 Tony Awards, as well as the Lifetime Achievement Tony Award in 2022.

Angela Lansbury was born in central London, the daughter of Irish actress Moyna Macgill and English politician Edgar Lansbury. She moved to the United States in 1940 and joined Hollywood after two years of training in acting. She was signed by MGM and obtained her first film roles, in Gaslight (1944), National Velvet (1944), and The Picture Of Dorian Gray (1945). She also appeared in films like The Harvey Girls (1946), The Three Musketeers (1948), The Court Jester (1956), and Death On The Nile (1978).

She also moved into voice work, contributing to popular animated films like Disney's Beauty and the Beast (1991) and Don Bluth's Anastasia (1997). Her most popular role came in the American whodunit series, Murder, She Wrote, in which she played Jessica Fletcher. Her final film role is in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022), which is set to be released in the US on 23rd November 2022.
