Shemaroo is planning a remake of the old classic comedy, Padosan (1968). If all goes well, then the remake will see a casting coup of sorts with Sanjay Dutt being roped in to act in the remake. The old Padosan had his father Sunil Dutt playing the lead role.

News has it that Ritesh Deshmukh will be playing the role of Bhola, made famous by Sunil Dutt in the original. Sanjay Dutt has apparently been approached to play the role of Vidyapathi, made famous by Kishore Kumar. Kareena Kapoor is being considered for Saira Banu's role and Govinda to play the role made memorable by Mehmood, that of the South Indian music teacher Master Pillai. Neerja Vohra is expected to direct the remake. The actors are not too willing to talk about the film as they think it is a little too premature to do so. Ritesh, for instance, is quite excited and yet scared about the prospect of playing Bhola. He is scared of trying to get into the shoes of the legendary Sunil Dutt. Another actor who makes Ritesh go weak in the knees is none other than Amitabh Bachchan. The actor is already going weak in the knees thinking of the fact that he will be sharing screen space with the Big B in Alladin.
