His repeated failure to appear before the court, in connection with a copyright case has landed director Shankar, of Robot fame, into bigger legal trouble.

The metropolitan magistrate court-II, Egmore, recently issued a non-bailable warrant against the filmmaker for not appearing before it. Short story writer Arur Tamilnandan has alleged that Shankar’s Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer Enthiran(Robot) was copied from his short story, Jiguba, which was published in a Tamil magazine in 1996 and re-published as a novel, Dhik Dhik Dheepika, in 2007. He found out that the film was a copy of his story post its release.

In 2020, the Supreme Court dismissed a petition of Shankar, challenging the order of the Madras High Court in connection with a copyright violation case against him.

The proceedings then started in the metropolitan magistrate court-II, Egmore. However, Shankar and his counsel failed to show up before the court and now a non-bailable warrant has been issued against the 2.0 director. The matter has been adjourned to February 19.

On work front, Shankar is busy with Indian 2 starring Kamal Haasan.
