Veteran actress Mumtaz recently spoke about her last attempt to see her longtime co-star Dharmendra, revealing how she spent 30 minutes at the hospital hoping to meet him — only to be turned away.

Mumtaz recalled that she first tried visiting him at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital when he was admitted and on ventilator support. Hospital staff informed her that no visitors were allowed. “I sat there for 30 minutes hoping I might still get to see him… but I couldn’t. I left without meeting him,” she told the Etimes.

She added that the last time she had met Dharmendra in person was back in 2021 at his residence — a memory she now cherishes deeply. “It was such a pleasant meeting. That was the last time we met,” she said.

Mumtaz also expressed heartfelt sympathy for his family, especially his wife, veteran actress Hema Malini. “I feel sorry for his family, and for Hema ji. She was always devoted to him. She must be feeling this loss very deeply. She was truly in love with him,” Mumtaz said.

She remembered Dharmendra as more than just a co-star — as a warm, kind-hearted man with a “truly golden heart.” “He was milansar — warm, friendly, connected to everyone. Even till the end, he had a good equation with people. They still love him, and they always will. He was a legend who will always be remembered; he is irreplaceable,” she said.

With Dharmendra’s death on November 24, 2025, at the age of 89, the film industry has lost one of its most enduring icons — a man whose charm, simplicity and kindness earned him love across generations, and whose legacy will long be cherished.
